The Cheshire Historic Buildings Preservation Trust (CHBPT) was formed in 1981 as The Chester Historic Buildings Preservation Trust Limited (CHBPT) with the support of the Chester Civic Trust. It is a private company, limited by guarantee, and registered as a charity (Charity number: 1185743). Often described as ‘the agents of last resort’, the Trust aims to save listed buildings and local landmarks from terminal decline. The Trust's remit covers a wide range of properties in various stages of disrepair, focusing on special buildings whose restoration is commercially unviable. In 2013, the Trust was reformed to cover a wider geographical area to include Wirral, Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington. The Trust's activities include the advancement of environmental preservation, conservation and refurbishment of buildings, monuments and structures of heritage value to the community.
