THE BIG ONION CIC

Created in 2020 and designed using over 30 years’ experience of working in communities, The Big Onion, owned and managed by Merseyside Expanding Horizons, works to change the economic and social prospects of the people it supports. Incubates over 25 local businesses including 15 retail traders. Delivers a range of business support services including Sefton’s Business Start Up Service. Operates Sefton Youth Hub, a collaborative employment support programme targeted at Sefton young people aged under 25 with the Department of Work & Pensions. Provides a range of employment support activities targeted at some of the most vulnerable members in our community. Delivers a range of skills development courses. Partners in a number of local events to help build stronger more resilient communities. Drawing together its suite of services, in particular skills development, employment and enterprise support, MEH was determined to ‘’BE PART OF THE RECOVERY’ and support people to become more financially independent. Assisting 107 people to start a business or social enterprise locally. Supporting 318 people to secure full time employment. Involving over 260 local people in formal and informal learning.
