Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust is an innovative regeneration agency and landlord specializing in identifying creative new uses for historic buildings made redundant by the Ministry of Defence. The Trust has an enviable track record of success playing a major strategic role in transforming a previously run down part of Her Majesty’s Naval Base at Portsmouth into one of the UK’s leading tourist attractions appealing to three quarters of a million visitors a year. The Trust’s main function is that of landlord and guardian of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. It is responsible for keeping the historic buildings in a good state of repair, for collecting rents and service charges from its tenants, and for refurbishing empty or redundant buildings for appropriate new uses. This ensures that the historic buildings and structures are safeguarded for the enjoyment of future generations. In 2010 the Trust acquired the freehold of Priddy’s Hard, a former armaments depot in Gosport and it has just commenced the regeneration of this 30 acre site and the many scheduled monuments and listed buildings located there. The Trust also owns and operates the Historic Dockyard Car Park, along with some retail units at Admiralty Quarter on Queen Street.
