NEWCASTLE CITY CENTRE CHAPLAINCY

The Newcastle City Centre Chaplaincy was established in 1976 as an ecumenical venture supported by the City Centre Churches of all denominations. Its ministry is to the commuters who work in the city center, in shops and offices, department stores and banks, local government, and many other places of work. The Chaplaincy aims to learn the nature of commerce, business, and other city-based institutions and firms, to share insights of Christian belief and faith, to minister to the needs of individuals and groups within the City, and to work toward a more humane society. The Chaplain's role is ecumenical, supporting and encouraging involvement with everyday life. The work includes visiting stores, participating in training courses, membership of policy discussion groups, establishing a presence within organizations, creating opportunities for people to meet, arranging discussion groups, fostering interest among Christians and people of other faiths, cooperating with others in arranging conferences, and caring for people in need.
