MUNICIPAL MUTUAL INSURANCE LIMITED

Municipal Mutual Insurance (MMI) is an insurance company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital, which was established by a group of local authorities and incorporated on 13 March 1903. The company suffered substantial losses between 1990 and 1992 and ceased to write new insurance business in September 1992. The Company is subject to a contingent Scheme of Arrangement under section 425 of the Companies Act 1985 which became effective on 21 January 1994. On 13 November 2012, the directors of the Company concluded that the terms of the Scheme of Arrangement should be triggered and served notice on the Scheme Administrator and the Company to that effect. As a result, the Scheme of Arrangement was triggered and the Scheme Administrator has taken over the management of the business of the Company. Municipal Mutual Insurance Limited is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. The company specialises in defending public sector bodies, including councils, police and fire authorities against historic employers liability and public.
