James A Marshall Ltd was established in 1856 and specializes in manufacturing Shade Cards, colour cards, pattern cards, sample cards, and swatches for various industries. The company was initially known as James Marshall, Maker of Plain and Fancy Pattern Cards and Books, operating from 114 Candleriggs, Glasgow. The company later moved to 23 Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow before the Second World War and was known as James Marshall and Son, Shade Card and Bunch Makers. In 1957 the company was registered as James A Marshall Ltd, Printers, Pattern Book and Shade Card Manufacturers. In 1973 the company moved to a purpose built factory in Bridgeton, Glasgow where it remains a privately owned business dedicated to the manufacture of Shade Cards. The company's customers include manufacturers and distributors of Vinyl, Upholstery, Apparel, Leather, Paper and board, Floor coverings, Dyestuffs, Knitwear, Wallcovering, Laminates and Display materials. They offer an in-house Design Studio and use Heidelberg printing presses. They also offer computer controlled guillotines and a specialised die-cutting facility. Automatic Sample Mounting reduces the production costs considerably.
