INSTITUTE OF CARPENTERS (THE)

The Institute of Carpenters (IOC) was established in 1890 to help maintain standards and skills in the wood trades. The Institute aims to promote excellence in the use of wood and supports members who aspire to the highest standards. Membership is open to all craftspeople working in wood trades, including carpenters, joiners, wheelwrights, furniture makers, boat builders, and shop fitters. The Institute supports colleges and their students, provides support and advice to woodworking professionals, and supports the continuing professional development of its members. The Institute's three main aims are to maintain the historic traditions of woodworking craftsmanship; advance and enhance the status of woodworking professionals; and promote and maintain high standards throughout the industry.
