CREMATION SOCIETY OF GREAT BRITAIN(THE)

The Cremation Society of Great Britain is a not-for-profit organization established in 1874 to promote the practice of cremation. It is the pioneer of cremation in Great Britain and built and operated the first crematorium for public use, in 1885 in Woking, Surrey. The Society works with the funeral profession and Government agencies to develop and improve best practice, as well as advising the profession and the public alike on a wide aspect of the practice of cremation. As a direct result of its activities cremation now accounts for approximately 78% of all funerals in the British Islands.
