CLEVELAND IRONSTONE MINING MUSEUM

The Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, now known as Land of Iron, is a state-of-the-art attraction that celebrates North Yorkshire's famous Land of Iron. It showcases the impact and significance of ironstone mining in East Cleveland on the United Kingdom, standing on the site of the first ironstone mine in Cleveland. Visitors can explore a rich history through an interactive exhibition with photographs, mementos, and objects detailing the life and work of miners and their families. The museum also offers guided tours, including entering the drift tunnel, with experienced guides sharing the story of the mining era. The museum has recently reopened in January 2023 after an exciting redevelopment, with the largest collection of objects and archives relating to ironstone mining in the country. The new name, Land of Iron, reflects the unique experience visitors will have as they learn about the area's historical role in the Industrial Revolution, having supplied over a third of the world's Iron and Steel.
