CHINESE HEALTH INFORMATION CENTRE

The Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) was established in 1987 to improve the access of health service among the Chinese communities in Manchester and the North West, and to tackle health inequalities. It aims to provide culturally appropriate health information services and to provide links between statutory services and the Chinese community in Greater Manchester. The centre is a well-established community-based centre, serving a large Chinese population in Manchester and its surrounding areas. It provides a unique, professional and quality service to local Chinese and South East Asian Communities in the areas of health and social wellbeing. Free services include: a branch surgery provided by 4 Chinese speaking GPs for health advice and referrals, drop-in service, group activities, Chinese women's health activities, elderly people's activities, medical terminology class, regular massage course for Chinese women, telephone health advice and interpreting service, hospital service, community health education and promotion, community networking and health-link, a monthly Chinese diabetes drop-in, and support for parents of children with Special needs, especially Autism.
