CENTRE PORT TERMINALS LIMITED is developing the world's first tidal energy-powered container port, capable of handling the world's largest container vessels trading with international deep sea markets. The project will be located in The Wash area in the United Kingdom, connecting Lincoln and Norfolk. The project includes a major container terminal for deep sea container traffic and a tidal renewable energy system providing consistent and predictable energy via a hydro-electric dam. It aims to preserve the natural habitats of The Wash and protect the area from the effects of climate change, including flood defense for the local area. The terminal will handle large 23,000 TEU ships. The project also seeks to create local employment opportunities, reduce the carbon footprint of the transport and logistics industries, and boost the UK economy. The project is estimated to generate 800 GWH of power, enough for up to 600,000 homes.
