BUILDING BRIDGES PENDLE

Building Bridges Pendle originally started as a small project named ‘One World, One Family’ in the early 1990’s. Its foundations were based firmly on Faith and Religious values, leading to an increase in support for this Interfaith movement. In 1999, Building Bridges Pendle was officially registered with the Charity Commission. Throughout all of its work, either with the adult community or young people, we at Building Bridges Pendle have maintained the key principle of remaining neutral and unbiased in respect of any Faith or Religion. That has helped us to gain the trust and respect of all organisations and people with whom we work. During our early years of providing community based activities Building Bridges Pendle has focused on adult education as well as facilitating social interaction through Interfaith meetings. Since then additional funding for Interfaith and Community Cohesion work has enabled Building Bridges Pendle to develop new opportunities particularly for the older generation. They have been able to meet and learn from each other, which helped to break down barriers and contributed to the creation of greater cohesion and harmony in our towns – Nelson, Brierfield, Colne and Barnoldswick. Such activities include; delivering Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship programmes in Primary and Secondary Schools; hosting interfaith seminars; creating and supporting community interfaith groups; supporting the Pendle Forum of Faiths; organising regular multi-cultural social events; arranging for Church / Mosque visits; publishing newsletters; holding peace vigils; and working in close partnership with statutory agencies.
