BIOS is the professional body for Orthoptists, who are registered Allied Health Professionals regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK and CORU in the Republic of Ireland. The BIOS is also a member of the International Orthoptic Association and OCE and is affiliated with the Allied Health Professionals Federation. BIOS members in the UK are automatically trade union members of the British Orthoptic Society Trade Union (BOSTU). The BIOJ is the official journal of the British and Irish Orthoptic Society.
